.•Most people in the Middle East sleep on rugs, while Japanese people sleep on a mat on the dining room floor.

 

•A dolphin sleeps with one eye open and one half of its brain awake at a time! Then it switches sides. This way, it can come up to breathe but still gets a good night's sleep.

•The ancient Egyptians and Chinese slept on hard stone or wood pillows. Ouch! •The longest any person has gone without sleep is 18 days, 21 hours, and 40 minutes…but don't try that at home! •Girls may need more sleep than boys do.

•People have more dreams than usual during lightning storms. • The more sleep deprived you are, the faster you fall asleep. If you get enough sleep every night, you should take 15 or 20 minutes to fall asleep!

•Elephants sleep standing up, but they lie down when they go into REM sleep

•Have you ever had a black-and-white dream? You probably haven't, since almost all dreams are in color. •The average American spends 24 years of his or her life asleep!

•Taking a nap that lasts between 20 minutes and an hour and a half may actually make you feel more tired than you were before the nap! Tell your parents that your naps should last less than 20 minutes or more than 90 minutes! • Babies sleep for 17 hours each day! And even unborn babies dream. •A dog sleeps for about 10 and a half hours per day, and a cat sleeps for 12! Apes and monkeys sleep for 10 hours…and you thought people slept a lot!

• Has anyone ever told you to "sleep tight?" That comes from the time when mattresses were on ropes, and people used a key to tighten sagging ones. •Almost every bird and mammal goes into REM sleep. The only exception is the spiny anteater!
